James L. Childress was born in Louisville, Kentucky on September 20, 1955, the oldest of seven children. Jim is married to Elizabeth Childress, also an attorney. They have four children and live in Lexington, Ohio.

Jim received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from the United States Naval Academy in 1977. After post-graduate training in nuclear engineering and completion of the Submarine Officers School, Jim served three years aboard the USS George Bancroft both at sea and in the Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine as a nuclear engineering officer.

Jim left active service to attend law school at the University of Kentucky obtaining his Juris Doctorate in 1985. Jim was a member of both the National Moot Court team and the International Moot Court Team as well as associate editor of the Journal of Natural Resources and Environmental Law.

Jim began his legal career with Taft, Stettinius & Hollister of Cincinnati, Ohio in their nationally-known Labor Department. He moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1986 to accept a position with Schwartz, Kelm, Warren & Rubenstein as a litigator. Jim joined Calhoun, Kademenos & Childress Co., L.P.A. in early 1991. He is the senior partner in charge of the Business Litigation Department.

    Jim has represented clients in state and federal courts all over Ohio, as well as representing business clients before state and federal agencies including the EEOC and EPA. Jim has published articles on employment law issues, as well as conducted seminars on that topic.

    Jim is a member of the Ohio Bar Association, Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys and the Richland County Bar Association. He was appointed by the Richland County Commissioners to the Richland County Civic Center Authority and is on the Board of the Convention and Visitors Bureau and was Past-President of Crossroads Center for Change. He also was appointed to the Environmental Law Committee of the State Bar Association and is a member of the Ohio Council of School Board Attorneys. Jim was appointed to the Board of Governors for the Litigation Section and the Employment and Labor Law Section of the Ohio State Bar. Jim is admitted to practice before the Northern and Southern Federal District Courts, as well as the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
